Meghalaya Home Minister Lakmen Rymbui meets CoMSO leaders

Shillong: The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations (CoMSO) said that its volunteers simply aided the Infiltration Branch of the Meghalaya police to check on suspected illegal immigrants, even as they added that they are not taking the law in to their own hands.

The CoMSO leaders met Home Minister Lakmen Rymbui on Thursday afternoon after he invited them to discuss on their direct action to implement Inner Line Permit in the State. Stating that prior information was given to the law enforcing agencies about their programme, chairman of CoMSO Robert Kharjahrin told newsmen, “We informed the minister that we will not take the law into our own hands. We only want to aid the Infiltration Branch of the police”. It is the Central Government’s apathy to respect the sentiments of the people which prompted the social organisations to take their own step.

On Wednesday, three vehicles were torched in and outside Shillong. It triggered a sense of anxiety of another possible law and order in the city. However, the leaders of CoMSO iterated that their members will not resort to such indulgence especially when it is time for the Board and university examinations.
