Shillong: In a significant development in the murder case of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, a local court in Shillong on Friday remanded the victim’s wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, and her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha, to 13 days of judicial custody following the completion of their police custody.
“Sonam and Raj were produced before the honourable court today at the end of their police custody. They have been remanded to 13 days of judicial custody. There was no further request from the police for custody at this stage. As of now, nothing new has emerged, but if required, the police may seek custody again depending on the progress of the investigation,” said Public Prosecutor Tushar Chandra.
A day earlier, on Thursday, the remaining three accused—Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Anand Kurmi—were also sent to 14 days of judicial custody.
Raja Raghuvanshi was murdered on May 23 while on his honeymoon in Meghalaya. His decomposed body was recovered on June 2 from a gorge near Weisawdong Falls in Sohra. According to police, Sonam and Raj allegedly conspired to murder him with the help of the three other accused. Sonam was brought to Shillong by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Meghalaya Police shortly after midnight on June 11. The other four accused were brought on transit remand the following day. All five were initially remanded to eight days of police custody. On June 13, Sonam and Raj were further remanded to two additional days of custody, which ended on Friday.
