Shillong: Four out of six criminals who recently escaped from the Jowai jail in Meghalaya, were lynched to death by a mob at Shangdung village in West Jaintia Hills district on Sunday.

As per the reports, the bodies of the criminals were taken to the hospital for identification, meanwhile, two other criminals are absconding and a search is on to nab them.

It is to be noted that, the accused "I love you Talang" along with four under-trial prisoners and one convict escaped from the Jowai district jail on Saturday.

The criminals who escaped jail are –I Love You Talang, Ramesh Dkhar, Marsanki Tariang, Rikmenlang Lamare, Shidorki Dkhar, and Lodester Tang." as per DGP Bishnoi quoted.

Earlier, Meghalaya Police arrested 'I Love You Talang', in connection with the kidnapping and murder of two cab drivers in Jowai on August 25, 2022.

Talang was apprehended along with three of his accomplices -Ramesh Dkhar, Tellme Pyrtuh alias Bor and Sampher Ksoo - on charges of kidnapping and murdering the cab drivers in the West Jaintia Hills district.

During the initial interrogation, Talang allegedly confessed that he and his three other accomplices kidnapped and murdered the cab driver named Damehipaia Papeng, who went missing on August 10, by slitting his throat.

Talang also guided police to where he had dumped the dead body of Papeng near a cattle market in Mukoi Mihmyntdu, near the Jowai Bypass on the NH-06.

Meanwhile, police also suspect that Talang and his gang were involved in another such crime where they murdered another cab driver named Fullmoon Kharsahnoh. Kharsahnoh's body was found dead in suspicious circumstances in Mynkre, East Jaiñtia Hills, last week.

After the arrest, the police produced them in court and court and eventually sent them to 14 days of police custody.
