Meghalaya: India-Kazakhstan Starts Kazind-22 Joint Military Training

SHILLONG : With an aim to expand cooperation between the two nations, on Thursday, a fortnight-long joint exercise was initiated by the armies of India and Kazakhstan in Meghalaya.

This will be a two-week long training launched by both the countries. It is to be noted that, this is the sixth edition of Indo-Kazakhstan joint exercise 'Kazind-22'.

The prime goal of this training is to boost up the level of defense cooperation while enhancing the relationship between the two nations. The training has been launched on 15th of December in Umroi, 25 km away from Shillong and will be carried on till 28th of December 2022.

One of the army officers stated in front of the media that the joint exercise will allow armies from both the nations to train, plan and utilise collaborative tactics for counterbalancing threats and warnings, which may take place during United Nations' peacekeeping operations.

Initially, both the countries conducted an annual training exercise called 'Exercise Prabal Dostyk' in the year 2016. Later in 2018, it was given a new shape and developed into a company-level exercise. Now it is known as 'Exercise Kazind'.

The army units from Kazakhstan belong to their South- based Regional Command while 11 Gorkha Rifles, representing the Indian army will take part in the exercise. Apart from engaging into joint tactical drills, planning and plotting, Indian and Kazakhstan armies will participate in various combat activities.

As per the statement of an army official, military relations will foster between the two nations through the exercise, which will eventually reflect in the future. During the programme, both the nations will assimilate each other's best practices and promote the scope of working together as a team.

Further, under a UN peace enforcement mandate, armies from both the sides will undertake counter-terrorist operations in jungle or partially urban scenarios, added the army official.
