SHILLONG: The Meghalaya government has announced a ‘cooling-off period’ for students who have recently cleared the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations conducted by the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE). The directive comes in the wake of this year’s early result declaration, which marked a significant shift from the usual academic timeline.

Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma has urged all educational institutions across the state to delay their admission processes until the government officially releases the academic calendar. “This time I want to inform everybody that it is a very unique environment this year. Usually, the results of SSLC examinations are declared by the last week of May or the first week of June, but this time we have announced it two months before,” Sangma said.

He emphasized that this advance in the schedule should not prompt institutions to rush into admissions. “Therefore, the admission will not be in a hurry. We will issue an academic calendar within the next week for all the institutes of the state, and we will instruct them not to take immediate admission. We call this period a cooling period or celebration period,” the minister stated.

Reiterating the state’s intent to ensure a uniform and coordinated admission process, Sangma added, “The academic calendar will be issued next week, and we will issue a uniform admission time for all the institutes.”
