Meghalaya: Irene Dkhar is Crowned 'Miss Northeast 2022'

SHILLONG: On Thursday, Irene Dkhar of Meghalaya was named 'Miss Northeast 2022' in a spectacular ceremony held in Kohima's cultural center.

15 competitors from the eight northeastern states contested for the title, and Dkhar was declared the winner.

What secured the crown for the beauty queen was her final answer, in which she advocated the need to address mental health issues among the youth as a social problem, if she's given an opportunity to speak with world leaders .

The new Miss Northeast received a trophy, gift baskets, and a cash prize of Rs. 1.5 lakh. She was followed by the first and second runners-up, Assamese girl Eshanee Hatimuria and Arunachal Pradesh's Dyna Jomo. Hatimuria received Rs. 1 lakh, while Jomo received Rs. 70,000.

The judges also chose Jomo as Miss Multimedia, Hatimuria as Miss Photogenic and Miss Talent, and Dkhar as Miss Perfect Ten.

The Queen of Hearts was Manasha Devi Sapam of Manipur, while Miss Beautiful Skin was Lika Chophy of Nagaland.

Although Nagaland has previously served as the pageant's host, this was the first time the Northeast Beauty Pageant Organization had held a Miss Northeast contest. The pageant was organized by the Beauty and Aesthetic Society of Nagaland (BASN) in collaboration with the Nagaland government.

The panelists included models Ketholeno Kense Vihienuo and Nise Meruno of Yamaha, designers Bambi Kevichüsa and Theyiesinuo Keditsu of poetry, education, and literature.

The next round of the pageant is planned to be held in Sikkim.

According to sources, last year during the event held at ITA Machkhowa, Guwahati on October 31, Awiesie Kajiri Pochury and Rosalen were crowned as Mr. & Miss Northeast 2021, representing Nagaland.

Along with the winning titles, Nagaland also took home five other titles and eight subtitles from the fourth edition of Mr. & Miss Northeast. According to Samuel Achy Phom, President of Nagaland Mega Entertainment, the winners were selected to represent India and receive a straight entry into the International Beauty Pageant 2022 in addition to a direct entry into the national competition and promotional shoots.
