SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma honoured legendary musician from the state Lou Majaw with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Majaw was conferred with the award during the launch ceremony 'Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project' which is a unique initiative by the Meghalaya government to promote music.

The renowned musicians Lou Majaw who is a resident of Shillong received the big honour for his massive contribution to the field of music.

Majaw is highly recognized among the masses for his Bob Dylan tribute shows through which he has gained immense popularity.

He has received several accolades for his musical talent including the fourth Dr. Bhupen Hazarika award which was awarded to him by Assam Governor in the year 2016.

The Meghalaya government on Tuesday conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award to Majaw in its support for gigs and music in the state under Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project.

Through this initiative, the state government aims to promote music across the state and the objective is also to recognize musical talents.

According to the state government, with the help of this platform aspiring musicians can showcase their musical talents.

Moreover, through this music project government will support artists for occasional tours in different parts of the state and across the country.

The chief minister said that there is a requirement to further leverage the music scene in Meghalaya which is branded as the 'Rock Capital of India'.

CM Sangma further informed that a series of events of different genres will be launched in the state under this project which will be mainly promoted to attract tourists to Meghalaya.

Sangma added that the government will conceptualize this programme for encouraging and providing a platform for our musicians and link it up with the tourism sector.

The youths of Meghalaya will get engaged through this major initiative and the project will provide them the opportunity to unleash their musical talents said Sangma.
