SHILLONG: A tragic incident rocked New Year celebrations in Shillong, as a family rushed their 23-year-old son to the hospital after he was stabbed on January 1.

The victim identified as 23-year-old Deva Kharkongor sustained critical injuries after being stabbed with a pair of scissors. He was attacked at approximately 9:38 PM near the Ghumti parking lot in Shillong’s Cantonment area and was rushed to NEIGRIHMS for treatment. The injuries included a deep stab wound on the left side of his ribs and severe damage to his right eye.

The victim's mother, Mera Kharkongor, filed an FIR at the Jhalupara police outpost against the accused who was identified as Saidin Ali. However, the suspect is still on the run.

Sources indicated that the Ghumti region within the Cantonment area is notorious for anti-social activities. Saidin Ali, the alleged attacker, has a criminal history, with previous arrests for similar offenses, although he was released on those occasions.

Meanwhile, earlier last month, a shocking revelation has emerged in the Guwahati stabbing case, where investigations have revealed accused Bhupen Das’ history of deception and manipulation.

Police sources revealed that Mousumi Gogoi, the victim, was lured into a deceptive relationship by Bhupen, who falsely claimed to be unmarried, trapping her in a web of false love. Mousumi, who had moved to Guwahati after her husband’s death, was unaware of Bhupen’s marital status and children. For two years, she maintained a relationship with him, only to discover the truth recently.

The turning point came when Mousumi received a call from Bhupen’s wife, revealing his true marital status. Upon learning the truth, Mousumi ended the relationship, but Bhupen refused to accept it. He began mentally threatening her, and on December 8, Mousumi filed a complaint against Bhupen at the All Women Police Station in Panbazar.

However, the complaint was not registered, and Bhupen continued to threaten Mousumi. Ultimately, he brutally murdered her with a sharp weapon.
