Meghalaya minister James Sangma's convoy meets with accident in Assam

Guwahati: At least four police personnel were injured following the Power Minister James K Sangma's convoy met with an accident in Nagaon, Assam on Sunday morning.

As per reports, the minister was on his way back to Shillong, after being tested positive for COVID-19 during a rapid antigen test at Imphal international airport yesterday.

Assistant Inspector General of Police (A), Gabriel K Iangrai said that upon receiving information, the convoy of the Power Minister met with an accident at Nagaon, Assam, and immediately, a police team was deployed to the place of occurrence.

When the team reached the site of the accident, it was seen that the pilot vehicle had turned upside down and the vehicle of the Minister was also damaged.

Iangrai informed that four police officials who were inside the pilot vehicle were immediately sent to a Civil Hospital in Nagaon for medical assistance whereas, the Minister has been escorted to his official residence in Shillong.

The AGIP also added currently, both the damaged vehicles have been taken to Nonoi Out-Post for observation of legal procedures and police officials of the State are coordinating with the counterparts of Assam for further necessary action.

Notably, James K Sangma, who is also the elder brother of Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma, had tested positive for COVID-19 in Manipur on Saturday.

James Sangma is now in home isolation at Shillong and plans to undergo RT-PCR test.
