Tura: Some unidentified miscreants allegedly vandalized a Catholic church located in Daram village of North Garo Hills in Meghalaya.

As per reports, the Idols of Jesus Christ and Mother Mary were destroyed by miscreants on the intervening night of August 25 and August 26 when all the priests were in Tura for a church retreat program.

In this regard, an FIR has been registered by the Church elders with the police at Resubelpara in North Garo Hills of the state.

Though the miscreants destroyed the statues, however, all the valuables remained untouched.

Reportedly, the attackers also tried to damage the holy crucifix on the upper portion of the church wall above the altar where the holy Eucharistic is celebrated, but could not succeed.

Following the incident, people are suspecting that one mentally challenged 25-year-old man who suffers from epilepsy is behind this vandalism as previously he had damaged other venerated church idols inside homes in Daram village. However, only after a police investigation, the truth will come out.

Notably, the church in Daram is one of the oldest Catholic communities in the North Garo Hills.

In May this year, in an unfortunate incident, unidentified miscreants vandalized a Shiva Temple in the Bhetapara area of Guwahati.

As per locals, miscreants vandalized and desecrated the shiva temple located in Bhetepara, enraging locals.

"We informed the police early morning at around 6 am but they arrived at 8.30 am after repeated calls," a local claimed.

Reportedly, a Ganesh Mandir was also vandalized by the miscreants wherein the idol of Lord Ganesh was uprooted from its place and thrown outside the temple.
