Shillong: The Meghalaya Truck Owners and Suppliers Association (MTOSA) has demanded that the five businessmen must put the auctioned coal challans for sale.

The MTOSA President Balen Thubru met cabinet Ministers Sniawbhalang Dhar and Dasakhiatbha Lamare at their chambers on Tuesday. They have appealed for the auctioned coal to be transported.

The five businessmen who were issued the challan had earlier disappeared and as a result, the association had questioned their disappearance.

According to Thubru, the coal traders are facing a dilemma in selling the assessed coal as per the directives of the Supreme Court due to the disappearance of the businessmen.

Heading Sutnga (1,100 tonnes), Ready Sutnga (16,480 tonnes), Dominic Myrthong (3,510 tonnes), K Kharkongor (3,850 tonnes) and Taiphor War Dkhar (28,840 tonnes) are the five businessmen who have received challans from the District Mineral Officer of Jaintia Hills.

Thupra has also mentioned their operations have come to a standstill and he urged the state government to scrap the challan if the businessmen fail to put the coal on sale.

Rs 1.20 lakh would be the estimated price per challan, he informed.

The Association President had also stated that he would welcome the Supreme Court's move to install GPS tracker in coal trucks.

However, he added that he has not received any information about the apex court's directive.

He mentioned that the cabinet Ministers Sniawbhalang Dhar and Dasakhiatbha Lamare will take up this matter with Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.
