SHILLONG: Meghalaya is on the verge of achieving a historic economic milestone as it approaches a $6 billion economy—an extraordinary leap driven by bold governance, strategic development, and rapid execution across sectors. At the core of this transformation is what state leaders are calling a new era of high-impact governance, marked by clear vision and strong political will. “Under the dynamic and visionary leadership of our Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma, Meghalaya is experiencing a remarkable period of transformation and accelerated progress. Development has become the foundation of our governance, and the pace of growth is faster than ever before,” said Meghalaya Cabinet Minister Marcuise N. Marak, emphasizing the government’s commitment to swift economic advancement.
With an impressive economic growth rate of 15%—well above the national average—Meghalaya’s development story is being defined by tangible infrastructure improvements, streamlined policies, and a strong push for inclusive growth. In the past seven years, 70% to 80% of roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) have been constructed, significantly enhancing rural connectivity and service delivery.
“This same momentum is evident across all major schemes and initiatives,” Marak added, highlighting the state’s success in leveraging central funds to ensure timely and effective implementation. Through strategic planning and steadfast commitment, Meghalaya’s governance model is turning policies into visible results—one project at a time. “Meghalaya isn’t waiting for the future—it is already building it,” he said.
Looking ahead, Chief Minister Sangma has set an ambitious goal of placing Meghalaya among the Top 10 States in India by 2032—a vision that is steadily becoming a reality. “Every policy, every project, and every partnership is a deliberate step toward achieving this transformative goal. The journey is well underway, and Meghalaya is rising,” said Marak.
