Meghalaya: Night Curfew extended in West Jaintia Hills

Guwahati: The District Magistrate of West Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya via an order has extended the night curfew in the District from 28th August 2020 until further orders. The curfew will be observed daily from 9:00 pm to 5:00 am each day.

The District Magistrate informed that the order will not apply to security forces, medical teams on duty, wholesale and retail pharmacies, police and armed forces, fire and emergency service, MeECL, NEEPCO and Power Grid, Food and Civil Supply Department, FCI, Public Works Department (PWD), Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department, Jowai Municipal Board, Postal Service, Telecom, Communications and IT Services, press, print and electronic media, and petrol pumps. Home delivery of food items will be allowed till 10.00 pm only.

Notably, essential services including health services, hospitals, clinics, dispensaries, veterinary clinics, and labs shall also be exempted. Authorized workshops and designated spare parts dealerships of Health and Family Welfare Department, Government officials on duty shall also be exempted.

Officers and staff of Corona Care centre, Information and Public Relations Department, National Highway and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) will also not fall under the purview of the order.

It is to be mentioned that the order also exempts the movement of vehicles carrying essential goods, security forces, medical equipment, and shops for repairing trucks on highways.

However, drivers and attendants of the vehicles shall be subject to medical screening as per consigned protocols. Curfew passes for timings falling between 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM will come into effect from 28th August 2020 and can be obtained via an online application available on the district administration's website.
