Shillong: The process for filing nominations for the upcoming elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) officially commenced today, marking a significant milestone in the lead-up to the polls scheduled for February 21. The counting of votes will take place on February 24.
Among the first to file their nominations was Fantin Joseph Lakadong, the sitting MDC and executive member (EM) from Laitumkhrah-Malki, representing the National People’s Party (NPP). Accompanied by his wife, cabinet minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, along with party workers and supporters, Lakadong submitted his nomination papers to the returning officer at the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT), Mawlai-Mawiong.
Independent candidate Dr. O. S. Jyrwa, contesting from the Sohryngkham constituency, and Daniel Wahlang, contesting from Mawsynram, also submitted their nominations at the DC office on the opening day. The deadline for submitting nominations has been set for February 3, with scrutiny scheduled for the same day.
