Meghalaya NPP MLA & Advisor to CM Accused of Rape, FIR Filed

Shillong: Meghalaya National People's Party (NPP) MLA Thomas Sangma has been accused of rape by a woman. FIR has been filed against Sangma who is also the Advisor to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma. The FIR was filed on June 1, Tuesday in Shillong.

In the FIR, the victim has accused Sangma of raping her on different occasions at her residence and at a hotel in Shillong. The lady mentioned in the FIR that Sangma had been raping her "on the pretext of marrying her from January 2020 till 17 April 2021."

Narrating how things had unfolded, the lady that the MLA had invited her and her friend, and offered them alcohol. "My friend and I drank the wine, and we spent some time in the hotel. After consuming the wine, I felt sleepy and became unconscious". She told the police that she could not lodge a complaint earlier because she was threatened, and Sangma promised to marry her by divorcing his wife.

"Therefore, with a genuine trust, I agreed to have an affair with him, but I never knew that he was blabbing only to satisfy his lustful desire and to have sex with me on the pretext of getting married," she stated.

The victim further claimed that she was pregnant, and Sangma asked her to abort the baby. The incident has come as a huge embarrassment for CM Sangma and his government.
