Shillong: NPP Meghalaya president and Deputy Chief Minister in the Conrad Sangma-led MDA 2.0 government, Prestone Tynsong, shared his personal perspective on the proposed “One Nation, One Election” policy, emphasizing its potential to save time, particularly with the enforcement of the model code of conduct during elections.

“Well, as far as ‘One Nation, One Election’ is concerned, I think I will not reply on behalf of the party. This is my personal opinion. I would like to see that elections are held once, not twice or thrice, be it for MPs or MLAs. Otherwise, if you calculate the time consumed, especially in terms of the model code of conduct, it is so much. So, if we have one election, I would see that we save a lot of time. Yes, maybe for two or three months continuously. But after that, in five years, only those two or three months will have the model code of conduct. However, if we have two or three elections, the model code of conduct, which lasts a minimum of 45 days, multiplies. So, my personal opinion is that if it can be done, if it is feasible, ‘One Nation, One Election’ is preferable for me,” Tynsong stated.
