SHILLONG: Meghalaya Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh has reiterated the need to strengthen the state’s security mechanism, emphasizing that the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA) requires urgent attention.

Speaking on the ongoing demand for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP), Lyngdoh acknowledged the state’s continued efforts, noting that the issue had already been endorsed by the state assembly. “This is still a relevant demand, and at this stage, I can only say that we should also strengthen our security mechanisms. Waiting for the clearance of the centre on the ILP might take more time, as it already has,” Lyngdoh remarked. He further stressed the importance of revising and upgrading the state’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) while highlighting the urgent need to reinforce the MRSSA. "We are in the process of upgrading and revising our SOPs, and the MRSSA needs to be strengthened to ensure better safety for the residents," he added.
