
UMPHYRNAI: The Meghalaya police, on December 12, arrested two drug smugglers from Manipur in the Umphyrnai area, which falls under the Madanrting police station, in the East Khasi Hills district.
The police officials seized ten soap boxes containing suspected heroin, weighing 106.06 grams, as well as two mobile phones from their possession.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Dontanglian (39) and Chingneilun (30), as per the police. An investigation into the matter is underway, and further details are awaited.
During the meeting, it was informed that the ANTF is initiating strict measures, including developing a database for offenders, hotspot mapping, and setting up a dedicated WhatsApp number as a helpline.
Furthermore, the officials at the meeting discussed strategies to trace interstate drug smuggling, break supply chains, and intensify awareness in educational institutions.
The measures aim to ensure support from departments and work in tandem with stakeholders. Meanwhile, Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh inaugurated the fifth edition of Winter Tales at Ward’s Lake in Shillong.
Lyngdoh underscored the importance of merging tradition with modernity while prioritizing sustainability highlighting the festival’s growth since its inception.
The three-day festival, themed "Balance," emphasizes sustainable practices and celebrates creative solutions that harmonize progress with preservation. The inaugural day saw the distribution of the Go-Green Awards, honoring individuals and groups committed to sustainability.
