Meghalaya Police Releases Helpline Numbers For People Stranded in Shillong

GUWAHATI: The Meghalaya Police have launched helplines numbers to assist people who are stranded in Shillong.

It is to be mentioned here that, the Meghalaya Government has extended the curfew till 5 PM of 18th August 2021.

The cabinet has also decided to constitute a judicial inquiry under the Commission of Enquiry Act to look into the series of events that occurred in the wee hours of 13th August 2021 which finally led to disruption in the hill state.

 The situation in Shillong and other parts of Meghalaya turned worse, following the death of the former leader of a banned militant group.

Reports of Sporadic violence were reported from Shillong as many are protesting the alleged encounter of Cherishterfield Thangkhiew on the day of his burial. Individuals were seen flying black flags and damaging vehicles along the way.

Meanwhile, SOS calls are been flooded all over the Twitter Handle from the people of Assam who are stranded in Shillong.

Earlier on August 15, heavy pelting of stones was reported in Mawlai area. Cars were being stoped in Garikhana point before the Funeral Procession of Slain Surrendered HNLC Cadre.

On the other hand, Assam top Cop, GP Singh has urged people from Assam not to travel to Shillong in view of the curfew.
