Shillong: The Meghalaya police cracked an eight-year-old murder case with the arrest of a person from the capital city last week. It may be mentioned that in 2010, a man murdered his pregnant wife in a remote village of South Garo Hills district and absconded till he was arrested from the city.

The accused identified as Amison M Sangma of Rimrangpara village in South Garo Hills district was arrested on November 15 from Malki locality of the city. Police has charged him with murdering his pregnant wife Melkuritha Sangma of Bolchimdagre village.

According to the police, the accused evaded arrest by frequently changing locations. The case under Chokpot police station, which was almost forgotten, was again taken up by Chokpot SDPO, Ravi K Sangma and sub-inspector, E Ch Momin. “After we began re-working on the case, we received information that Sangma may be in Shillong. As the Sub Inspector of Chokpot Police station Momin was earlier posted in Shillong, he activated his sources and circulated details of the suspect,” police said.
