

SHILLONG: In a success against people involved in narcotics businesses, Meghalaya Police seized a consignment of Phensedyl cough syrup. They were also able to apprehend three people in relation to the same incident.
The operation was carried out under the Khliehriat Police Station along with the Anti Narcotics Task Force on Saturday. They apprehended one Altaf Hussain and a search of his basement led to the recovery of a total of 9883 bottles of cough syrup named Phensydyl.
On being questioned, Altaf Hussain provided information that led to the apprehension of the main accused of the nexus. Named Ratan Dkhar, this person is a resident of Ummulong in Meghayala. He reportedly operated a small factory in the basement of his residence to manufacture fake cough syrup. He then labelled it as Phensydyl and illegally exported the same for sale in the neighbouring country of Bangladesh. The officials then raided the residence of Ratan Dkhar and recovered a massive cache of questionable items.
Some of the items seized by the authorities include 600 bottles of 100 ml Elcodyl cough syrup, 10 bottles of flavouring agent (500 ml each), 11 bottles of food colour (1 kg each), 10 kg of Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride and 1 kg of Chlorpheniramine Maleato. 7 books on Pharmacology and Drug preparations, 34 bottles of Phensedyl (100ml), 780 empty 100ml bottles of Phensedyl, 46 cartons with Phensedyl already marked, 1 carton of bottle caps, 1 plastic bag of Phensedyl labels, 1 bottling machine, and 2 sophisticated machines for drug preparation and filtration. Rs 11,790 in cash was also seized during the operation.
During the interrogation of Ratan Dkhar revealed his involvement with two other people. One of them Shaheen is a resident of Assam and helped in the transportation of the narcotics. He was also apprehended during the ongoing operation. Meanwhile, a case was registered at the Khliehriat police station in this regard and an investigation is underway to find anyone else who might be related to this gang.
