Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee Observes Mahatma Gandhi’s Birth Anniversary

SHILLONG: Along with the rest of the nation, Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) observed the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on Tuesday at Congress Bhawan, Shillong.

The Programme began with the singing of “Vande Mataram” followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and offering of floral tribute before the portrait of the father of the nation.

In the meeting held, the leaders of the party dwelt at length on the theme “values and ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, and relevance of Mahatma Gandhi in todays social political and economic scenario in the country”.

James S.Lyngdoh, Working President, Meghalaya, who chaired the meeting welcomed the members and highlighted the importance the day and the “theme”.

He urged upon the party members to rededicate themselves to the ideals and principles of Mahatma Gandhi.

Kimfa S.Marbaniang, MLA and MDC from Rambrai, who graced the function as the Chief Guest dwelt on the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and urged upon all sections of the people to move forward with the ideals and principles of Gandhiji.

Others who spoke on the occasion included Dr.Manash Das Gupta, General Secretary, MPCC, Richard M.Marak, President, Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress, Mebaailang Kharkongor, President, Shillong City Mahila Congress and Fernandes S. Dkhar, General Secretary, Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress.
