SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress (MPMC) today organized a ‘silent protest’ to oppose the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 which was passed by the Lok Sabha. Speaking to reporters after the protest, MPMC president, Joplin Scott Shylla said that they have decided to march to the BJP office from Congress Bhavan on January 16.
She also said that they will organize a public meeting in front of the BJP office to explain the people why they are launching this campaign against the amendment bill. The MPMC president also urged upon the women citizens to take part in the march as this is an issue which will have an adverse impact on the future generation. Shylla said that the decision of the BJP led NDA Government to bulldoze in passing the amendment bill is a clear reflection that they are not bothered about the feelings and sentiments of the people of the Northeastern region. She said that the passing of the amendment bill is an insult to the people of the region. The MPMC president said that the party will continue to protest on the amendment bill.
