SHILLONG: Global music sensation Ed Sheeran will perform in Shillong on February 12, an event that has generated considerable attention and support from local authorities. Meghalaya's Tourism Minister, Paul Lyngdoh, said the state was doing a great job in using live concerts to boost the local economy. He pointed out that the initiative comes at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently called for an increase of investment in concert infrastructure and skill development.

According to him, Meghalaya has been a front-runner since the early 2000s when major music events not only attracted tourists but also provided job opportunities and added cultural riches to the state.

Preparations for the highly anticipated concert are going on in full swing, and officials are working diligently to accommodate an estimated crowd of 27,000. An important meeting was conducted between officials of the ticketing platform Book My Show and district administration to finalise logistics and crowd management plans.

Ed Sheeran has begun his six-city tour of India by performing in front of a lively audience in Pune on January 30. The British singer-songwriter, sporting a custom "Pune" t-shirt, seems absolutely thrilled with taking the tour beyond the city of Mumbai, where he has performed earlier. The Grammy-winning artist will be touring to Shillong, which means the concert is likely to further cement the city's status as a prime destination for international music events.
