SHILLONG: The number of Covid-19 deaths in Meghalaya still remains high even as the number of fresh infections fell drastically on Monday.

According to health authorities, the State recorded 11 new deaths, 187 fresh infections and 479 people have recovered. Of the 11 fresh fatalities, nine were not vaccinated, health officials said.

With the latest figures, the number of deaths has reached 1,174, the number of active cases is 4,734 and 63,450 have so far recovered from the disease. Of the new deaths, East Khasi Hills district recorded five, Ri-Bhoi and West Khasi Hills districts two each and East Jaintia Hills and South Garo Hills one death each.

Of the 187 new cases, East Khasi Hills district recorded 95, West Jaintia Hills district 28, West Garo Hills district 21, West Khasi Hills district 19, Ri-Bhoi district 13, East Jaintia Hills district and South West Garo Hills district three each, East Garo Hills district and North Garo Hills district two each and South West Khasi Hills district one.

Of the 4,734 active cases, East Khasi Hills district district has 1,795, West Khasi Hills district 813, West Garo Hills district 597, West Jaintia Hills district 526, Ri-Bhoi district 473, South West Khasi Hills district 228, East Jaintia Hills district 76, East Garo Hills district 64, North Garo district Hills 62, South West Garo Hills district 51 and South Garo Hills district 49 cases.
