SHILLONG: Meghalaya on Monday recorded 28 new COVID-19 cases on Monday taking the State's active cases to 633.

Among the fresh cases, the maximum number of 21 cases were reported from East Khasi Hills followed by five from Ri-Bhoi and two from West Jaintia Hills. Of the 21 new cases in East Khasi Hills, two are contacts from North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), two are returnees, one a patient in Shillong Civil Hospital, another is a high-risk contact of a laboratory technician in the Shillong Civil Hospital; 13 are BSF troopers, and two others are personnel of the armed forces. The five new patients from Ri-Bhoi are personnel of the armed forces, and the two from West Jaintia Hills are returnees.

Of the total 518 active cases in East Khasi Hills, while 226 are from the BSF, 233 are civilians and 59 are from the armed forces. Besides, there are 55 cases from Ri-Bhoi; 17 from East Jaintia Hills; 16 each from West Garo Hills and West Jaintia Hills; five from West Khasi Hills; four from South West Garo Hills; besides two from the South Garo Hills district.

Till Monday afternoon, of the 38, 596 samples sent for testing, 37,004 cases were negative and test results of 690 are being awaited.

A total of 24, 925 residents of the State returned till Monday afternoon.
