SHILLONG: With detection of 42 new COVID-19 patients detected in Meghalaya, the State's active cases rose to 1,178 on Tuesday. Of the fresh cases, the worst-hit district of East Khasi Hills district reported 31 (21 civilians and 10 from the armed forces and paramilitary forces), informed Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War.

According to the official figures, the East Khasi Hills district has registered the highest number of active cases at 797 of which 512 are civilians and 285 are armed forces personnel.

A total of six fresh cases were detected in the West Garo Hills district, three in Ri Bhoi, and one each in West Jaintia Hills district and North Garo Hills district. War informed the 16 of 31 cases in East Khasi Hills, are high-risk contacts, three tested positive during random sampling at the NEIGRIHMS; two in Woodland hospital; and one is an influenza-like illness (ILI) case and a returnee.

He further said the new cases have been detected from Anjalee, Punjabi lane, Goenka Kamakya, Lumparing, Mawlai Umjaiur, Mawlai Mawtawar, Barapathar, Dhankheti (where two employees of the Life Insurance Company (LIC) were tested positive) Rilbong, Nongkseh, Bishnupur, and Barapani.

War also informed that a Health worker, who is a lab technician, also tested positive for the coronavirus at the Maternal and Child Hospital, Jowai in West Jaintia Hills while the cases in Ri Bhoi include one returnee, one ILI case and one tested for immigration procedure. West Garo Hills, on the other hand, has detected the virus in four high-risk contacts, one armed force personnel, and a returnee. Dr War also informed that 43 more patients have recovered from the viral infection. With this, the total recoveries in the State have gone up to 832.
