SHILLONG: Meghalaya on Monday recorded 44 new COVID-19 cases with 40 of them being from East Khasi Hills, informed Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman Warr.

Of the 40 cases in East Khasi Hills, 39 are civilians (while one is a high-risk contact of a positive person, 38 other cases were detected from Rilbong; and one is a personnel of the BSF); West Garo Hills recorded three cases (from Tikrikilla) and East Jaintia Hills one (an inter-state driver).

With these new cases, the number of active cases have gone up to 733; out of which 423 are in East Khasi Hills (BSF: 72, armed forces: 70, and civilians 281); West Garo Hills: 184; Ri-Bhoi: 100; North Garo Hills: eight; East Jaintia Hills: five; West Jaintia Hills: four; three each from South West Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills; and one from South West Khasi Hills.

The State also recorded four recoveries on Monday with two from East Khasi Hills; and one each from West Jaintia Hills, and East and Jaintia Hills. The total number of recoveries till Monday afternoon is 679.

The number of samples sent for testing till Monday afternoon is 43,872 out of which 42,137 samples tested negative and the report of 315 samples are being awaited. Dr Warr also informed that a total of 28,380 residents of the State have entered Meghalaya till Monday afternoon.
