Meghalaya: Speeding car crashes on Umiam Flyover; one critically injured

SHILLONG: A serious accident occurred around 2:35 PM at the Umiam Flyover when a Maruti Suzuki Wagon R (ML 05 AC 5114), reportedly speeding towards Guwahati, lost control and crashed into the side of the road. Police said the impact caused one of the front-seat passengers, Nobin Singh (41) from Mukhla, who was dangerously seated on the window, to be flung off the flyover, resulting in a severe head injury.

Police said the vehicle was being driven by a resident of Assam named Gobinda Biswas. Two other passengers seated in the back, Bijoy Singh-Nobin’s brother and Baris Marboh of Puriang, escaped unhurt.

The injured was rushed to Civil Hospital, Nongpoh, by a 108 ambulance, accompanied by his brother. The driver and the uninjured passenger have been sent for medical examination, while the vehicle has been towed to Umiam Police Station for safe custody.
