Shillong: In a pre-dawn operation on Thursday, Ri Bhoi Police arrested three individuals accused of stealing diesel from Reliance Jio mobile towers in Jirang village. Acting on a tip-off, authorities intercepted a vehicle at around 3 am near the Patharkhmah PWD Junction and recovered six plastic jerry cans containing approximately 220 to 230 litres of diesel.

The accused have been identified as Refer Marsing of Mawtari Thaiang village, along with Robren Langi and Rishad Sylliang, both from Umkra village. “During preliminary interrogation, the three confessed to siphoning the fuel from three telecom towers in the area,” confirmed a police official.

Police believe the suspects are part of a broader network targeting mobile towers in the district. “We are investigating links to other diesel thefts and are working to identify additional members of the group as well as potential buyers of the stolen fuel,” the official added.
