SHILLONG: According to the sources, Lazarus M. Sangma, a Trinamool Congress MLA from Chokpot, was taken to the hospital on January 4 after suffering injuries after his car collided with the ICFAI University wall in Tura. On the outskirts of Tura in the West Garo Hills District, at Balonggre, is where the university's campus is situated.

The incident occurred on January 3rd at night while MLA Lazarus was operating his Mahindra Bolero jeep with license plate ML08 H 7639 and another man as an occupant. He allegedly lost control while driving the car at a fast pace.

ICFAI's wall was severely damaged, along with the bolero itself, when it was breached by the car. Lazarus (45 years old) and Tengsrang CH Momin (40 years old), both of Dobasipara, Tura, have been admitted with injuries to Tura city hospital.

It is important to note that political parties are preparing for the next assembly elections as the state is. Prestone Tynsong, national vice president of the National People's Party (NPP), and deputy chief minister of Meghalaya expressed optimism that his party will form the government on its own in 2023 on Tuesday, December 6.

When questioned, the NPP leader stated that because elections in Meghalaya are completely different from those held in other countries, neither he nor other political parties should view NPP as a danger.

"Elections in Meghalaya are completely different, as I keep reminding you. Voting decisions made by Meghalayans are based on their personal preferences, relationships with candidates, and degree of closeness to those candidates; hence, the issue of party affiliation is not important in this case. But in the main, I'm telling you that winning elections in the state of Meghalaya, I've seen and I've done my research, people don't elect the candidate on the basis of the party line, but they elect on the basis of their personal line," he remarked.
