SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Cabinet has approved a proposal to amend the Meghalaya Settlement of Arrears under the State Taxation Act (Amendment) Ordinance, 2022.

Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said that Meghalaya had been implementing the 'One Time Settlement of Tax', but in the course of time there are some persons/firms/agencies who have already paid some percentage of the tax but could not clear all and there are some firms which have submitted applications that they could not pay before the last date for settlement is over.

"So the Taxation Department have moved for giving opportunity for those who have submitted the application and offered their willingness to pay," Rymbui said. Rymbui said that this will enable those individuals or traders who have liability to settle their taxes. He said that with this the Government will be able to generate an amount of Rs 12 crore from the pending cases.
