Shillong: National Milk Day is observed on November 26 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Verghese Kurien, known as the ‘Father of White Revolution’. To mark this occasion, the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department will celebrate the National Milk Day on November 26 at U Soso Tham Auditorium in Shillong.
Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong will grace the occasion as the chief guest. Another objective of organizing the programme is to create an awareness regarding the benefits of consuming milk. About 300 dairy farmers and 300 school children from different schools will be participating in this programme.
Various programmes will also be organized to highlight the importance of milk in our daily life, from childhood to old age, including showcasing of dairy products and free distribution of milk to school children.
There will also be prize distribution to the Best Performing Dairy Farmers/Milk Producers and to the winners of quiz competition and essay competition on the topic, ‘Importance of Consuming Pasteurized Milk’ among the participating schools. A live-on-air quiz competition conducted by Red FM Radio will also be held for one week prior to this day.
