Guwahati:

The Government of Meghalaya has announced that some additional activities shall be permitted from May 18 onwards, the day after the third-phase of the coronavirus-triggered lockdown comes to an end.

M.S. Rao, the Chief Secretary of Meghalaya, has informed that the following additional activities shall be permitted in the state from May 18 onwards:

Operation of tea stalls in the rural areas excluding those that are located along the National Highways

and

the opening of dry cleaning shops in urban areas.

It needs mention here that the Centre will announce the rules and regulations of the fourth phase of the lockdown after the submission of recommendations from the State Governments. The information about the impending lockdown will be relayed before May 18, Mr. Modi said in his address to the nation earlier this week.

Meanwhile, the Meghalayan Economy, reeling from the destructive effect of the Covid-19, is seeking a revival post lockdown. Yesterday, the Executive Committee of the Chief Minister's Economic Task Force assembled with a focus on Agriculture and Tourism. Conrad K Sangma, the Chief Minister, said that the Committee will work towards creating and sharing recommendations and will strategize a plan of action to revive the economy of Meghalaya post the Covid-19 crisis.

Meghalaya has so far reported 13 cases of the virus, and 11 of the patients have made recoveries. The index patient, however, succumbed from complications due to the virus on 15 April.
