
SHILLONG: Meghalaya's rising cycler sensation Kevin Lyngdoh Sangriang made the state proud when he bagged two gold medals at the 21st National Mountain Bike Championship 2025.
The big event took place at Haryana's Morni Hills on March 28-31 and was conducted by the Haryana Cycling Association on behalf of Cycling Federation of India.
Kevin from Mawkyrwat in South West Khasi Hills is a 15-year-old who impressed everyone with his natural ability by sweeping the competition. Gold in both Cross Country Time Trial and Cross Country Olympic (XCO) categories went to him, solidifying his reputation as one of the country's brightest young cyclists.
The young champion raced with a high-performance bicycle that cost Rs 1 lakh, which was provided by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma. Kevin, thanking him, said, "I wish to thank Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, whose sponsorship of the bicycle helped me win the gold medals."
On Tuesday, the Meghalaya Cycling Association (MCA) honored Kevin for his impressive feat at a ceremony organized at ISBT Junction in Mawlai Mawiong. The ceremony was presided over by MCA president Lening B. Bareh, who lauded Kevin's hard work and dedication.
A 14-member team from Meghalaya represented the state at the championship, while another rider from the state, Meban Aiboklang Suiam, won a silver medal. While the other 12 riders did not get a podium finish, all of them benefited from competing at the national level.
