Mossang Tanusa Gogoi, Vezotolü Shijoh bag first and second runners-up

BORDUMSA: In the 1st edition of Miss Hornbill International 2023, Rachel Rimeiaka Jyrwa from Meghalaya was crowned Miss Hornbill International 2023, while Mossang Tanusa Gogoi of remote Innao village in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh bagged the first runner-up title. Vezotolü Shijoh from Nagaland became the second runner-up. The 1st edition of Miss Hornbill International 2023 concluded on December 2 at the Capital Cultural Hall, Kohima.

The Hornbill Festival, which is also called the 'Festivals of Festivals', is a 10-day annual cultural fest in Nagaland that showcases the rich and diverse Naga ethnicity through folk dances, traditional music, local cuisine, handicrafts, art workshops, etc. Tanusa, the daughter of Timiyak Mossang and Mridul Gogoi, shared while talking to The Sentinel that the prestigious international event of the beauty pageant industry in Nagaland had featured a total of 14 contestants from various states of India beside Nepal.

“The ‘Miss Hornbill International'—being the first international beauty pageant in the NE region with participants from across the nation beside Nepal—was organised by Vogue Entertainment Nagaland (VEN)”, told Tanusa. She is currently pursuing her masters in political science in Guwahati. “I am also preparing for UPSC undergoing coaching at SPM IAS Academy at Guwahati," shared the 2nd title holder.

"We are happy that our daughter Tanusa has been adequately recognised based on her performance on such a broad platform and hope that she will deliver her best in the days to come and earn more glory for the people and the place," said Timiyak Mossang, the proud mother.

Meanwhile, the local legislator of Tanusa's home constituency, Somlung Mossang, took to his social media handle to congratulate the proud second position holder Tanusa and added, “The success story of Tanusa would inspire the on-board aspirants of the state to exhibit their talents, overcome the impediments with a strong determination and grit, and rise to a position of prominence or excellence in their pursuits”.

Briefing in a nutshell about the background, significance, and objectives of the Hornbill International, Kuno Resuh, the operational head of the event, while talking to The Sentinel, shared that the culturally significant and destination event also had other sub-title winners in categories like Best National Custom, Best Evening Gown, Miss Ramp Walk, Miss Talent, Miss People’s Choice, Miss Fashion Icon, etc.

The winner was awarded cash worth Rs 2 lakh, while the 1st and 2nd runners-up were awarded Rs 1,50,000 and 1 lakh, respectively. According to Resuh, the event was also supported by the Nagaland Tourism Department, the Directorate of Arts and Culture, the Nagaland Bamboo Development Authority, and the Department of Sericulture. “The formal closing ceremony is slated for December 10, and we are expecting Tanusa of Arunachal to grace the event, which will be marked by a media briefing and an official photo shoot," added Resuh.
