Minister for Tourism Metbah Lyngdoh lauds Teachers of MVI Secondary School, Shillong

Mairang: Meghalaya Minister of Tourism and Water Resources Metbah Lyngdoh today lauded the teachers of Mairang Vidyajyoti Inclusive Secondary School and said that it is very challenging to teach and take care of children with special needs while reiterating that service to mankind is service to God.

Speaking on the occasion of the 10th anniversary celebration of Mairang Vidyajyoti Inclusive Secondary School, Sangshong, Mairang, Lyngdoh expressed happiness and satisfaction that the school through many hardships have reached its 10th year and praised the school that started with 1 student on its first day in 2008 and now has almost 300 students enrolled saying great things are not accomplished in a day. Metbah Lyngdoh also said that the success of the school is possible only through the hard work and dedication teachers and various personalities who had helped elevate the school to its present status.

It may be mentioned that Mairang Vidyajyoti Inclusive Secondary School is a project of the Khasi Jaintia Presbyterian Synod Sepngi, under the faithful initiative of the Social & Economic Life Development Department (SELDD) and was started on June 2, 2008, with only one student on the first day. In the initial years, the school started with class nursery and KG and upgraded to Class X in 2017.

Presently there are 296 students enrolled out of which 39 are children with disabilities. The school was established to provide formal and non – formal education to both normal and physically challenged students. In imparting education to all the school has three units A day School, Out Patient Department (OPD)/Home management unit and Vocational Training Unit. Mairang Vidyajyoti Inclusive Secondary School is the only model for inclusive education in West Khasi Hills District.

The Minister also felicitated four students Banlumlang L Nonglait, Kynsaibor L Nonglait, Suktiris L Mairang and IdamanbhaBasaiawmoit who are the first SSLC batch of the school and also released a souvenir to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the school.

Earlier in the day, Metbah Lyngdoh inaugurated the Approach Road from PWD road (245m) to the school and from the PMGSY road (110m) to the school, in the presence of Equator L Nongrang, Deputy Chairman, KHADC, Sub Divisional Officer (C), Mairang Civil Sub Division A Nongbri, Block Development Officer, Mairang C&RD Block V Swer, Moderator KJP Synod Sepngi Rev. WC Khongwir, dignitaries, officials, teachers and students.
