Minister of Revenue Kyrmen Shylla says ‘Inter-State boundary issues must be resolved urgently’

A REPORTER

SHILLONG: The Minister of Revenue Kyrmen Shylla on Tuesday said that necessary steps will have to be taken up by the State government to ensure that inter-boundary incidents like the one that happened at Balakhawa village in Ri-Bhoi district do not happen again in the future.

It may be mentioned that last week, a group of unidentified persons suddenly attacked and vandalized the property of Michael Warjri, the secretary of Hima Nongspung at Balakhawa village.

“This is an unfortunate incident and it is the duty of the State government to find a solution and to ensure that such incidents do not recur,” Shylla said while speaking to reporter here on Tuesday.

He also informed that the matter will be further discussed with Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.

“A Cabinet meeting will be held on this issue on May 16,” he added.

When asked whether there had been any complaints from residents of Balakhawa in the past one year as most of the developmental activities there are taken up by Assam, he said, “At my level there has not been a single resident who has approached me on this matter. Maybe they might have met the Chief Minister.” He, however, stated that if such complaints were registered, then the Chief Minister would have intimated him to take steps for ensuring that the issues of Balakhawa residents are resolved.
