Minister Sanbor Shullai meets Ajay Bhatt over Shillong Cantonment issues

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Minister (BJP) Sanbor Shullai met Union Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt and apprised him about the problems faced by the lease holders in the Shillong Cantonment area due to the rise in calculated STR of the Area.
In a memorandum submitted to the Union Defence Minister, Shullai requested the Ministry to only implement 0.25 of the STR which will help reduce the cost for the lessees.
Shullai also discussed early implementation of building byelaws and also sought funds for the water tank at Jhalupara, upgradation of the Goenka Hospital and the proposals of the Shillong Cantonment School which have been sent by Shillong Cantonment Board.
He also urged the Defence Minister to help provide NOC (No Objection Certificate) for various roads in Shillong town to help ease te traffic congestions in town.
Minister Shullai also raised the difficulties faced by Mawshbuit residents whose the only points of entry and exit lies within defence area.
He also said that the local MDC and Chairman of KHADC -- Pyniaid Sing Syiem had also taken up the matter with the Defence Ministry in the past. He added that the MDC had met him before his trip to Delhi and urged him to pursue the matter with the Union government. Shullai urged the Union Minister to relocate the gate and allot unhindered passage for civilian movement.
