SHILLONG, Aug 27: Newly elected MLA of Ranikor, Pius Marwein underlines his thrust on development to uplift Ranikor constituency. But when it came to queries related to the sensitive proposed uranium mining issue and the NGT ban on uncientic extraction of coal, he simply said that he will go with the voice of the people.
After touching as to how he as a new legislator will make an effort to bring about better connectivity, health, education, water and sanitation to the constituency, Marwein said, “Coal mining is a source of livelihood not only to the local populace but to the other inhabitants of the the State too.”
Without reffering to the NGT, Marwein said that he will do his bit to restore the extraction of the mining that will go in sync with the legal provisions. Note mentioning that Ranikor constituency has been one of the worst hit areas after the NGT ban the unscientic rat hole mining in the state.
Uranium deposit is fairly huge in the constituency. The proposed extraction by the Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) has been stalled due to multiple protest by the NGOs, some of which had got violent. On this he said,“I will go with the voice and wishes of the people.”
