Shillong, June 13: A day after mobile internet was restored in Garo Hills region, it was again suspended on Wednesday afternoon.

According to authorities, mobile internet service of all service providers has gone into suspension for 24 hours from 3 pm of Wednesday.

Police said that that this was done since a serious law and order situation has again arisen in the Garo Hills districts having potential threat to public safety.

It may be mentioned that mobile internet in the region was restored on Tuesday after it was suspended for four days, following demands from the pressure groups of the region to remove non-tribal MDC, Sofior Rahman from the post of chairman of the Forest Advisory Board, last Friday. On Friday last week, the organizations had gheraoed the GHADC demanding the removal of Rahman from the post. A meeting later took place on the same day between leaders of the organizations and Chief Executive Member (CEM), Dipul Marak where they demanded besides removal of the MDC from the post, cancellation of TNT license given to the proprietor of GLR pharmaceuticals and removal of Boldamgre Nokma for allegedly selling tribal land to outsiders, within one week.

On Wednesday, the pressure groups again met the CEM and extended the deadline for another week.
