Mother, Son from Mysore on a Mission “Never Abandon your Parents”

Shillong: The mother-son duo from Mysore without any begging bowl and on religious pilgrimage reaches Shillong with a vintage scooter to promote respect for old-age parents. The son Krisna Kumar (40) and his pillion rider Chandra Ratna (70) have visited 18 States of India, travelling 43,000 kilometres before reaching Shillong with a message “never abandon your parents”.

With a Bajaj Chetak, the duo has reached all the prominent pilgrimage centre in eighteen States of the country, besides Nepal and Bhutan. Kumar told newsmen on Friday, “We travel at our own expense.. we don’t take any outside food or any aid in our venture to spread our message to spread the message of our respect to our parents.”

Astonished, the 70-year-old-mother from Mysore, said, “My age doesn’t matter but the message should be that the offspring’s should not humiliate or discard or keep their old parents in a mercy home”.

The rider and the pillion rider (son-mother) had traversed in the typical Indian way where the lady pillion sits sideways.

Krishna Kumar left the profession as a corporate head in a Banglaore based company before starting his new sojourn with her mother. He said, in course of our journey we relied simply from the savings and interest”.
