Narayana Guru’s Birth Anniversary Observed

SHILLONG: The 15th annual function to commemorate the 164th Birth Anniversary of Jagatpurush Sree Narayana Guru was celebrated in the city on Sunday at the Sri Aurobindo Institute of Indian Culture, Bivar Road.

During the function awards were also distribute to those who have rendered their services to the society. One such award the Sree Narayana Guru Education/Literary Award 2018 was conferred to Skoi Nongspung and Meris Nongspung for their exceptional contribution in uplifting the rural youths with the aid of education, free of cost, with full dedication thereby fulfilling the rights of every child.

Wansuk Syiem a Member of Parliament, representing Meghalaya State in the Rajya Sabha during her speech as Chief Guest said, “The teaching of Sree Narayana Guru are very similar to the teaching of Swami Vivekananda and in the world today we need to have tolerance.”

She said Sree Narayana Guru has rose up above cast, religion and un-touch ability and he had showed us that even if we belong to any religion we must first become a humble and first try to become human being. The function was also attended by former Home Minister of Meghalaya RG Lyngdoh beside other dignitaries.
