National Institute of Fashion Technology Annual Event ‘Spectrum’ Held In Shillong

SHILLONG: Spectrum 2019, a two-day annual event of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Shillong, was organized recently.

The theme of the event this year was “Redress” and involved competitions and activities on photography, music, sports and of course, fashion.

Meghalaya Chief Secretary Y Tshering inaugurated the event as the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, Tshering lauded NIFT for its pioneering role in fashion education in the country and said creativity and exploration are keys for bringing new ideas in fashion design.

“The North East Region holds a lot of potential for new ideas in fashion design due to the diversity of cultures and costumes and students should always have an eye for creativity and willingness to explore,” he said.

Director, NIFT Shillong, Prof Monika Aggarwal also spoke on the occasion and briefed the gathering on the activities of the centre.

The final day of the event witnessed a fashion show and the crowning of Mr and Ms Spectrum 2019 in which Shashi Kant Shashi and Evalarine Mary Jonsoi of Accessory Design Department were adjudged to be the winners respectively.

The event culminated in a prize distribution ceremony in which Joint Secretary of Sericulture and Weaving, Government of Meghalaya, WAM Booth, graced the occasion as the chief guest in the presence of Principal of Police Training School, Vivek Syiem, as the guest of honour.
