SHILLONG: The National People’s Party (NPP) is oozing with confidence to bag the South Tura and Ranikor constituency in the upcoming by-polls scheduled on August 23. This is notwithstanding the other political parties to contest the elections to ensure the defeat of the two NPP candidates.

In South Tura Constituency, Conrad K Sangma is seeking elections to ensure his continuity as the Chief Minister of the state and he will have to face Congress party nominee Charlotte Momin, former MLA and independent candidate John Leslee K Sangma and the UDP rebel who filed his nomination papers as an UDP candidate.

Unlike the Tura seat where the BJP and UDP are supporting Conrad K Sangma, in Ranikor, It is a different scenario. The NPP is fielding Martin M Danngo as its candidate so are all of the constituents of the same ruling (MDA) dispensation in the State are also fielding different candidates with an objective to end the 25 years of Martin M Danggo MLA tenure. Danggo won on a Congress ticket for the fifth consecutive time in the February elections this year and only to resign by June 21. Soon after his resignation he joined the NPP and he is seeking re-elections.
