National Service Scheme East Zone Pre-Republic Day Parade Training Begins

GUWAHATI: The Pre-Republic Day parade camp under National Service Scheme (NSS) for the Eastern Region is being held at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) from November 4. The camp was formally inaugurated by Dipak Kumar, Regional Director, NSS in the presence of PR Khound, Director, Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare, Assam; Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor, USTM; Dr PK Goswami, Vice Chancellor and Prof Alaka Sarma, Pro VC of USTM. The 10-day-long camp is being organized by NSS in association with USTM, stated a release.

Altogether 200 NSS volunteers from 10 States, including West Bengal and Odisha are participating in the camp. Of them, the best 40 NSS volunteers will be selected to participate in the Republic Day parade in New Delhi in 2019. Experts from different government and non-government organizations from across the country are here to impart training to the participants on parade, life skills, yoga and cultural programmes.

A cultural procession took place as part of the inaugural ceremony. Participants from all over north-eastern States and West Bengal and Orissa joined the procession in colorful traditional dresses. The aim was to strengthen the unity and brotherhood of the country. Earlier, Mahbubul Hoque welcomed all the volunteers and wished them a pleasant and learning stay in the University.
