'National Unity Day' observed in NEHU, Shillong

SHILLONG: North-Eastern Hill University observed the 'National Unity Day' (Rashtriya Ekta Divas) at its main campus to commemorate the 145th birth anniversary of SardarVallabhbhai Patel, the 'Iron Man of India' on Saturday. The small gathering of the members of NEHU fraternity included the Pro Vice Chancellor and the Registrar.

Recalling the immense contribution of Sardar Patel for unification of various princely states of India post independence, Prof. S.K. Srivastava, the Vice-Chancellor spoke about the essence and the need of unity, integrity and solidarity of every citizen with an emphasis on commitment from all for the unification and security of the country at all times. Referring to the present COVID-19 pandemic across the world, he reminded the gathering to fight together against it.

While taking the pledge for the unity, integrity and security of the Nation, all the members gathered in the programme strictly adhered to the SOP issued by the government, stated a release.
