Nationalist People’s Party dubs Congress stand as a ‘misinformation campaign'

Staff Correspondent

Shillong: The Nationalist People’s Party (NPP) termed the Congress allegation of ‘NPP being hand in glove with BJP’ as a ‘misinformation campaign. The NPP said that the Congress campaign has yielded no fruits as it was decimated in the just concluded district council polls.

The Congress had mounted its campaign against the NPP after State Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma was seen accompanying the Prime Minister during the filing of nominations in Varanasi. Congress has gone to the extent of terming the NPP and the BJP of being two sides of the same coin.

However, Meghalaya NPP president W Kharlukhi reacted through a press conference on Monday by stating that the relationship between the BJP and the NPP has nothing to do with ideologies. “We were part of the NDA and our relationship dates backs to 2012, when the BJP supported our leader Purno A Sangma for the presidential polls”.

“There is no disguise as alleged and the relationship is on under the NDA umbrella”, stated Kharlukhi, while iterating that the NPP is part of the NDA.

“We have made it clear that if the CAB is pushed through in the Parliament, we will withdraw from the dispensation and the stand continues till today,” said Kharlukhi. Stating that the Congress is spreading political canards to undermine his party, the NPP president said, “These misinformation campaigns are a desperate attempt by the Congress.”

The NPP is already under fire from the main political opponents who termed the BJP-NPP camaraderie as a ‘cat that has come out of the bag long ago’. On this, the NPP president said, “These are political lies that begrudge the work undertaken by the State Government with funds from the Centre”.
