NEHU Organized An Environmental Awareness Programme At Umsaw Village

SHILLONG: The Department of Environmental Studies of NEHU organized an environmental awareness programme at Umsaw village to mark World Environment Day on June 5.

The students and research scholars of the department enlightened the villagers about air pollution, the international theme of this year’s World Environment Day.

The head of the department, Prof D Paul, engaged the young students and impressed upon them about the need to protect our environment at local, national and global level for better life on earth.

Deliberating upon air pollution he informed that “polluted air kills some 7 million people each year, causes long-term health problems such as asthma, and how children are more vulnerable and are prone to develop reduced cognitive development.”
