New pumps yet to arrive to rescue the 14 miners trapped inside the illegal rat-hole mine

SHILLONG: The East Jaintia Hills district administration and other rescue agencies are still waiting for confirmation from Kirloskar Brothers Limited for the new pumps to reach so that they can quicken the task for dewatering the illegal rat-hole mine in Khloo Ryngksan near Lumthari village where 14 miners are still trapped authorities said on Sunday.

The spokesperson of the rescue operation, Reginald Susngi also informed that the approach road to the incident site has become slippery due to rain and plying of vehicles due to muddy condition has become a problem wherein required logistics cannot be transported at present.

The Coal India Limited on Sunday pumped out water since yesterday evening till 5 pm on Sunday from both their pumps and the total discharge of water is 45,90,000 litres.

The Kirloskar Brothers also pumped out water from Saturday evening till 5 pm on Sunday and the total water discharged was 57,60,000 litres.
